How To Order A Custom Diamond Painting: A Helpful Guide

Posted by Lynn Hamilton on 13th Dec 2021

This morning I was looking at our family’s favorite photo and was thinking it would be great if you could create your own diamond painting.

That's a picture of a picture of my mom and dad around 1952.

Boy, those were the days! Check out those whitewall tires!

Did you know you can make your own diamond painting? That's right you can get a customized diamond painting fairly simply.

How do I order a custom diamond art painting kit?

This is a great question and it comes up a lot in the 5d diamond painting community.

Here is a helpful guide to walk you through how to order personalized diamond painting.

It’s quick and easy to do.

  1. Select the photo you would like to be made into custom diamond art.
  2. Upload it to your phone or your computer.
  3. Order your custom diamond painting.
  4. Email your photo to the email address on the product page or, if available, download it during the order.
  5. Your supplier will convert the photo to a diamond painting.

Some good advice is to contact the supplier ahead of time to discuss the order.

We love it at Diamondxpres when that happens.

In fact, here's a 20% off coupon for your first custom diamond painting -> CUSTOM20

There are some additional considerations when ordering.

Read on. The next few paragraphs are critical to ensuring your custom diamond pictures come out properly.

What picture can I use for my custom diamond painting?

The short answer is any photo you want.

It is, after all, your diamond painting.

We do recommend using only your clearest and sharpest photographs.

However, we know that this isn’t always possible because many photographs that have high sentimental value may not always be the clearest or the sharpest.

That's understandable.

It's also likely that many sentimental photos aren't digitized.

A good photo of a photo can work.

But there is only so much any one can do with any photo because what matters most for a custom diamond painting or for any diamond painting is size.

The bigger the better.

See this post on what size diamond painting should I buy for further discussion.

For the fuzzy photographs, it's best to get cropped and blown up (i.e. zoomed-in) as much as possible to reveal facial details.

Watch here as we make a custom diamond painting from a photo of a photo.

It helps some.

Would definitely recommend at least a 40x40cm for this one.

As a rule of thumb use this custom diamond painting guide:

It also helps if the faces are close together.

This allows us to blow up the picture some and crop it before we turn it into a custom order.

3 close faces

This picture will be very easy to work with and will make an amazing custom diamond painting.

If the faces are too far away the photo will need to be cropped like this one:

This next photo will make a good custom diamond painting, but the faces won't be as clear unless it is a super large diamond painting canvas.

4 faces far apart

Additionally, we can sharpen your photos and might play with the contrast or highlights a bit.

Here's something else you might not know.

You can order custom diamond paintings of drawings, designs and your own paintings.

Here's a picture of diamond art we sell on Diamondxpres that is actually a custom of a customer's granddaughter's drawing.

We spiced it up a little bit and added a few colors but you get the point.

What shape custom diamond painting should I order?

Try to match the shape and aspect of the photo you are using for your DIY custom diamond painting.

An iphone is shot in a 3:4 aspect so a 30x40cm will work to get the whole screen.

Prints are normally 4:5 so a 40x50cm is nice.

A 20x25cm will also work as long as it is just one face and we can zoom in on it.

Any landscape or scenery custom diamond painting should be closer to 40x60cm.

If this is too confusing just order a 40x40cm and let us figure it out for you.

Should I use round or square diamonds for my custom diamond painting?

It doesn’t matter.

This is a personal preference.

Square diamond paintings will always be clearer and sharper.

But if working with square diamonds is not to your liking round is ok.

We get plenty of round custom diamond painting orders and our customers are happy with the results.
